Laura works predominantly in oil.
Her bold use of colour and generous application
of paint make for a distinctive style that allows
her to capture a variety of subjects.
Many of her paintings comprise dramatic
landscapes and seascapes inspired by her visits
to Orkney. The islands are blessed with a huge
expanse of sea, green fields, jagged cliffs and
an ever-changing sky. The atmosphere of Orkney
is wild and windy and often sand, seashells and
bits of heather get blown into the thickly applied
oil paint and set there.
At the centre of Laura’s
work is a quality of capturing the soul and atmosphere
of the subject – an attempt to evoke a “feeling”
rather than a representation. This is the essence
of all her paintings, whether it is a fragile
vase of flowers or a wild, unruly sea.
Laura had a successful solo exhibition
at the Lennox Gallery in 2005. Since then she
has exhibited and sold at the affordable art fair
and in various group exhibitions. She has an open
gallery at her home in Fulham, where she lives
with her husband and three children.
